2018 Olympia Cup: Olympic Weightlifting Championships
September 14 @ 8:00 am - September 15 @ 5:00 pm AKDT
The 2018 Olympia Weightlifting Cup returns with more excitement than ever before, by liberating lifters from a traditional weightlifting event! This year, the Olympia Weightlifting Cup has taken on the challenge to bring you all the fun and excitement of a weightlifting competition with none of the downtime and waiting of a traditional weightlifting format.
This year lifters will compete in an a la carte selection of inventive, hybrid weightlifting events. The Olympia Weightlifting Cup will allow competitors to compete in their favorite normally non-competition lifts such as the power clean and even lifts from the blocks! The competition format will include lifters competing side-by-side in head on competition. And, lifters will also be able to compete along a series of preloaded bars, where only the strongest lifter will complete each weight in the series. Lifters will be given up to 3 attempts per weight on the bar. Likewise, lifts will be judged only on a safety basis. This means good lifts will be judged as good lifts — and no more losing lifts for minor annoyances like press outs. Further, the event offers lifters much more freedom in their lifting attire: only athletic attire and footwear will be required. Weightlifting singlets are optional!
Awards and prizes will be given on an individual lift basis, by best pound- for-pound lifts and heaviest overall lifts. In other words, lifters will be able to compete in any combination or selection of lifts and be awarded based on individual lifts. Entry fees will be scaled to a “per lifting event” registration basis.
As in past years, look forward to special guest appearances from celebrity weightlifters and coaches.
